Few varieties of millets are plentily available in India
It is unarguably true that home made organic foods are the best for weight management. Market-sold weight loss supplements can give immediate benefit, but in the long run only home grown food items are your saviour. One such wonder food is millet. These are small seeded grasses, grown abundantly in India and worldwide in a number of varieties. There are about 6,000 varieties of millets grown across the world. There are a number of varieties of millets of which few are plentily available in India and are immensely helpful in weight management.
Ragi
Ragi or the finger millets are also known as nachni in many parts of the country. 100 grams of ragi contains 354 kcal. Ragi is known to contain the amino acid tryptophan which suppresses appetite and keeps the individual full. Apart from keeping one satiated, ragi also offers a good amount of fiber to the gut system. Its low fat content also makes it ideal to be included in diets for weight loss.
In addition to this, ragi is also rich in calcium and vitamin D which makes it a superfood for bones. Another advantage is that ragi is easy to cook and can be made into a number of tasty dishes.
